Peter Chu is a self-employed consultant in DTT Transmission Network & Coverage. And is currently the Scretary / Treasurer of SMPTE Hong Kong Section (2020-2021). He has been a senior consultant for EverTop Technology (Int'l) Limited to carry out the DAB+ network coverage analysis in period from December 2013 to April 2014. He also is a senior consultant of National Engineering Laboratory for DTV (Beijing), effective in March 2012. He, as ITU Expert  has undertaken the ITU-KCC Digital Broadcasting Projects to assist the beneficiary countries to develop road map for transition from analogue to digital terrestrial television broadcasting (DTTB). The road map development for countries including Sri Lanka  (August – October 2011), Philippines and Indonesia (September 2012 – March 2013) and Timor-Leste (August – December 2013). In 2014, Peter Chu is one of the Founder-Director of Society of Motion Imaging Limited (SMI).

From 2009 to 2011, Peter Chu has been working in Hong Kong Applied Science Technology Institutes (ASTRI)  as principal engineer in Communication Technologies Group. He is responsible for DTMB deployment relating transmission network design and coverage planning. Before joining ASTRI, Peter Chu has been service for Television Broadcasting Limited (TVB) in Hong Kong since 1970 and retired in 2009. His last position in TVB is principal engineer (transmission network). He is responsible to manage TVB’s analogue TV transmission network comprising with 39 stations as up to end 2007. For DTTB migration in Hong Kong, his works in TVB involves transmission network planning; design and construction of new DTTB transmission network (MFN & SFN) using DTMB to fulfil the implementation framework of DTTB in Hong Kong.

Peter Chu has been the key coordinator to organize the first digital terrestrial television (DTT) technical trial in Hong Kong starting in 4th quarter 1999. The technical trials include 3 international DTT standards, named ISDB-T , DVB-T  and ATSC . In 2006, Peter Chu was the key coordinator to organize the DTMB standard  field trial in Hong Kong. Besides, Peter Chu was selected as a recipient of the 2006 Citation for Outstanding Service to the SMPTE Society and a Life Member of SMPTE since 2017.
